Copy Assignment to Other Classes

The Copy to Other Class(es) feature in the Curriculum Engine (CE) is only available for optional LOs from an existing assignment in a class.  So the assignment must be created first and can only be copied to other classes that use the same course and version.

The copy of the assignment will be assigned to all students in the target class; this cannot be modified during the Copy Assignment process.  Since students cannot be removed from an assignment after it’s been created, do not use this feature if you don’t want all students in the target class to get the assignment.

Availability and due date fields can be set if blank or modified, if desired, during the Copy Assignment process for the learning objects in the copy of the assignment in each target class.

Once an assignment is copied to other classes, any updates to the original assignment will not propagate to the other classes.  This feature will not allow you to copy the same assignment a second time to the same target class.  The target class of “Copy to Other Class(es)” must have students in the class.

If you wish to make changes to the copied assignment in the target classes, you must edit the copy in each of the target classes.

Standard LOs with due dates and updated type (graded or practice) properties cannot be copied to other classes.  You will need to add due dates to and modify the type of standard LOs in each class.  However, the additional properties may be copied to all other classes using the same course by selecting "Apply settings to all classes" under "Specify Additional Properties".  Make sure to scroll back to the top and click Save after making any changes.

Sharing assignments and standard LOs to Google Classroom

If you use Google Classroom to manage assignments in your class, standard and optional learning objects can all be shared to your Google Classroom class and appear as assignments under Classwork and Stream (if you allow Classwork notifications on the Stream).

There must be a one to one mapping of classes in the Curriculum Engine (CE) and your Google Classroom classes.  So assignments from one CE class can only be shared to its corresponding class in Google Classroom, not to multiple Google Classroom classes.   If you also use Copy to Other Class(es) feature in the CE, you will need to share the copied assignments in each CE class to its corresponding Google Classroom class.

At the end of the create assignment process in the CE, you will also be presented with a pop-up that includes a button to generate a link to share the assignment to Google Classroom.  Click the green Google Classroom button to start the sharing process.

If the assignment has already been created, you can click the 3-dots and select share to Google Classroom.

Standard LOs are shared using the small green Share with Google Classroom icon next to the LO name.

To share multiple standard LOs to Google Classroom, click the boxes left of the learning object names and then scroll up to the very top and use the large Share to Classroom button under View & Create Assignments section.

The first time that the student clicks the shared resource in Google Classroom, he must login into the CE to access the LOs.

When sharing assignments and standard LOs to Google Classroom, the LO property “Assignment due by” date does not populate the Google Classroom assignment “due” field.  You must enter a date in the due field if you wish to set a due date for the Google Classroom assignment before clicking Assign.

Scores for graded and practice LOs are stored only in the CE and not passed back to Google Classroom.
