This help document covers updating the learning object type (standard or optional) for the learning object that you are editing.
When editing a learning object, there are three steps. Updating the learning object type is part of Step 1: Set Properties. This can be found at the bottom of the Learning Object Details section.
Standard or Optional
There are two options available for the learning objects:
Standard: Once the learning object is added to a course, it will be visible to all students automatically.
Optional: The learning object will only be visible to students once it has been assigned. It will not automatically be available. This is typically used for assessments and other learning objects for which you want to control availability.
Select the radio button to the left for the option you want associated with the learning object you are updating.
The last section under Set Properties is Instructional Settings. This section is optional. It is where you can update additional descriptive information about the learning object. To learn more, see the help document for Instructional Settings: Learning Object Editor | Step 1: Updating instructional settings for your learning object. You can also leave this section blank.
If you are not completing the Instructional Settings section now, you can click the Next button at the bottom of the screen to move on to Learning Object Editor | Step 2: Adding a standard set to be used with your learning object.
