This help document will show you how to update properties for online graded tasks so that students can retake the assignment.
Specify Additional Properties
To allow students the option to retake tasks that are set to graded, you need to update the reattempts option under Specify Additional Properties. This option is ONLY available for online tasks.
Optional online tasks are assigned to students while standard tasks do not need to be assigned. Updating properties for standard tasks is done under Manage Course while updating properties for optional tasks is done under Assignments.
Since it is typically optional tasks such as assessments that are set to graded, this help document will outline updating the setting for optional online tasks.
When creating an assignment for the first time, after selecting the optional online task that you want to include in the assignment and setting the Type to graded, click the Specify Additional Properties link located at the bottom right of the learning object tile.
*NOTE* Specify Additional Properties will not be available until you have added the task to the assignment.
After selecting Specify Additional Properties, the Curriculum Engine will open a pop-up window with the fields you can edit. The Reattempts property will be located at the bottom.
Reattempts
You can set the number of times a student can reattempt the task. By default, reattempts will be unchecked for graded tasks meaning students can only submit the task once. However, you can override the default and allow students to retake a graded assignment by selecting the checkbox. Once selected, you have two setting options.
Unlimited
If you select unlimited, students can reattempt the completed tasks an unlimited number of times. When selecting reattempts, the system will default to unlimited attempts but you can update the selection if needed.
Maximum Attempts
If you select Maximum Attempts, you can then indicate the number of reattempts allowed. When selecting Maximum Attempts for the first time, the system will default to 2. You can change this number. The number of reattempts must be between 2 and 20.
Student Impact
If the reattempt setting is updated after students have already submitted that task, the following will occur:
For students who have exceeded or are equal to the new reattempt limit
If the attempts made already exceeds or is equal to the new reattempt limit, then the task will be considered as done. New attempts will not be allowed as the student has already exhausted the new limit. Reports will display the latest attempt score even if the latest attempt count exceeds the new reattempt limit.
For students who have not exceeded the new reattempt limit
For the available attempts all the applicable properties including: Duration, Minimum Proficiency Score, Reattempts, and Randomize Items; will be applied. The Reattempt option will be enabled and the student can reattempt the submitted assignment.
Save
Once you have specified the additional properties, click the OK button at the bottom of the specify properties pop-up screen.
**NOTE** You will need to finish completing the assignment for the settings to be saved.
Reports
Reports will reflect most recent student attempt. For grading reports, the score will display for the latest attempt once the task has been completed and submitted.
