This help document shows you how to add an associated learning object such as an answer key to a learning object that you are creating in the Curriculum Engine.  It also includes steps for creating an answer key for your own custom assessment or practice problem.

When creating a new learning object, there are three steps. After completing all three steps and publishing your learning object, depending on the type of learning object created, you may be prompted with an option to create an associated learning object.

Publish Learning Object

After clicking the Publish button, you will be prompted that the learning object has been published.  Again, depending on the type of learning object, you may then be prompted with the option to create an associated learning object (LO).

Create Associated LO(s)

Click the Yes button to create an associated LO. The associated LOs window will open. Click the Plus (+) icon to add a new learning object.

The learning object creator window will open. See Learning Object Builder | How to create a learning object for help documentation on creating learning objects.

**NOTE** As you are creating an associated learning object such as an answer key, you will want to answer the learning object questions/prompts accordingly.

Key Points

  • If you are creating an answer key for your assessment learning object, you can select "Assessment Answer Key" as the type in Step 1.
  • The standards and skills from the original learning object will already be displayed under Step 2.
  • You can upload a document, or a link to a URL in Step 3. You can upload an answer key, or other materials such as a link to additional resources in support of the learning object.

When finished creating the associated learning object, click the Publish button. You will be prompted that the associated learning object has been saved.

Create Your Own Answer Key Document

If you just created your own assessment or online practice problem, you can also create an answer key document to add as an associated LO.  After clicking Add in step 3 in the learning object creator window, from the item bank search screen, you can click the question title/code to preview it.

The question preview has a Show Answers checkbox.  Select it and scroll down to see the correct answers.  Screen capture the question and answers or print the page to PDF to save it.   After previewing all your  selected questions with show answers and capturing the pages, you can put together an answer key document for your custom assessment.

View Associated Learning Objects

Now, when you go to the original learning object and click the ellipsis menu, you can select "Manage Associated LO(s)":

And, the Curriculum Engine will display all associated learning objects for the learning object, including the one you created.

From here, you can edit existing associated learning objects, or add additional associated learning objects such as an answer key document.
