This help document covers setting up the details for the learning object that you are creating. This includes the learning object name and other descriptive information.

When creating a new learning object, there are three steps. Setting the learning object details is part of Step 1: Set Properties.

Learning Object Details

The Learning Object Details section is where you provide information about the learning object and set the learning object parameters. All fields must be completed to move on to the next step.

Fields to be completed under Learning Object Details include:

Type: You can select the learning object type from the drop-down listing. The available options correspond to the folder categories in the learning object manager such as supporting resources, warm-ups and printable practice problems.

*NOTE* You may need to scroll down to see all of the options.

Sub-type: Select the option from the drop-down listing that matches the sub-type for the learning object you are creating. The options available will vary depending on the type of learning object selected in the first field. For some types, there is only one sub-type option available. In that case, the sub-type will be automatically filled in by default.

Name: Enter the name of your learning object here.

Object Description: This is a free text field where you can enter descriptive information about the learning object you are creating.

Subject: This field will automatically default to “Mathematics”.

Source: Select the source of the objects you are using for your learning object.  There are three options available:

  • Proprietary
  • Open Education Resources (OER)
  • Other

Duration: Enter the length of time you want associated with the learning object.

*NOTE*  When the learning object is included in a course, the time duration that is set here is used as part the pacing calculation. It is also used as the default time spent on the learning object when marking it as complete.

You will need to indicated whether your learning object is standard or optional next. See Learning Object Builder | Step 1: Mark your learning object as standard or optional.

You can also complete additional optional fields to further describe the course you are creating after setting the learning object type. See: Learning Object Builder | Step 1: Adding instructional settings to your learning object for more information.
