This help document will show you how to specify additional properties for online assessments. The properties that you can specify include duration, minimum proficiency score, randomize items, and reattempts.

Specify Additional Properties

The Specify Additional Properties option is ONLY available for online tasks such as assessments and Learnosity based interactive practice problems. You do not have the ability to set these fields for other learning object types.

This help document shows you how to set those properties for optional learning objects that are assigned and for interactive practice problems that have been given a due date. Specifying additional properties for optional learning objects is done when creating assignments or when setting the due date. Please see Assignments | Using quick launch to access assignments.

After selecting the optional online task that you want to include in the assignment or after setting a due date for an interactive practice problem, click the Specify Additional Properties link located at the bottom right of the learning object tile.

*NOTE* Specify Additional Properties will not be available for optional learning objects until you have added the task to the assignment.

*NOTE* Only learning objects with the red, yellow and green symbol (pictured below, located on the top right) will have the Specify Additional Properties option.

After selecting Specify Additional Properties, the Curriculum Engine will open a pop-up window with the fields you can edit:

You can set the following properties in this pop-up window:

  • Duration: This option is available for timed activities. The duration will default to the time set for that learning object, but you can change the duration if needed.
  • Minimum Proficiency Score: Specify the pass percentage or minimum grade a student needs to pass the task (default = 65%).
  • Randomize Items: When checked, the Curriculum Engine will scramble the order of the questions each time the activity is launched (default = randomized).
  • Reattempts: You can set the number of times a student can reattempt the task. By default, reattempts will be unchecked for graded tasks however you can override the default and allow students to retake a graded assignment. (default (graded) = unchecked).

Duration

Below are a few points on task behavior and duration:

  • The student’s answers are saved for a task when he/she exits without submitting. The student can return to the same task and continue where they left off.
  • When a student launches a task and the duration is not set, a timer or the run-time will be displayed. This is to let the teacher see how long it takes for the student to complete the attempt.
  • If the duration is set with a time limit, the student will see both the timer and duration. When time is up, the student has to submit the activity.

Save

Once you have specified the additional properties, click the OK button at the bottom of the pop-up screen.  For optional learning objects, you will now need to complete and save the assignment. To complete the assignment, in addition to selecting the tasks, you will need to select the students who should get the assignment, name the assignment and then click the Create button.

*Note* if you have specified the additional properties for Interactive Practice Problems, you simply need to press Save

**NOTE** If you are are editing an assignment, the button will say Save.

The Curriculum Engine will prompt you when the assignment has been saved successfully. You can click the Cancel button to exit the prompt.
