This help document shows you how to restrict availability of learning object tasks under the Manage Course feature of the Curriculum Engine.
For details on how to get to the Manage Course feature, please see Classes | Manage Course overview.
Expand Course
Once you are in the Manage Course window, the Track Progress and Edit Availability section at the bottom will display your course components, including all sections and learning objects associated with the course. You can expand each section to view the learning objects by clicking on the down caret to the right of each section:
For information on expanding all of the course details, please see Classes | How to expand a course under manage course.
Dates
Under each standard or assigned optional learning object, you’ll see two date fields:
- Assignment Due By
- Restricted Availability of LO
*NOTE* Optional learning objects will not display these date fields until they have been added to an assignment. Once assigned, you can set due dates and restrict availability for optional learning objects too.
Restrict Availability
Under Manage Course, you are able to set a restriction on when students can have access to a learning object task.
If you have a task or activity that you want the student to see only during a specific window of time, you can restrict availability. With these fields, you can set the start and end dates and associated times. The students will only have access to the task during this period.
Restricting availability is a good option when assigning assessments.
When you select Restrict Availability of LO, the Curriculum Engine will default the start and end dates based on the teaching schedule set when assigning the course to the class.
You can edit the teaching schedule for the course if you want to change the default dates, or you can override the dates from the Manage Course feature. To override the dates, click the Calendar icon to choose new dates from the calendar that will pop up. Once you click on a date, it will autofill into the date field. You will need to set both a Show From and a Show Till dates.
*NOTE* If the default dates are in the past, you will want to change the "Show Till" or end date first; otherwise, you will not be able to set a "Show From" start date beyond the end date that is currently set.
To change the time, click the down caret to use the drop-down menu to set the hour and minute values for the restricted period. To toggle between AM and PM, click on the AM or PM fields.
Save Changes
Once you have entered the restricted dates, you need to save the changes. To save changes, go to the top right of the Track Progress and Edit Availability window and click the Save button on the top right.
You’ll be prompted with a message once the save is successfully completed. Click the OK button.
