This help document shows you how to modify the learning object types used in your course. The learning object types are activities to include in each lesson, such as a warm-up or practice problems.

When Editing a Course, modifying the learning object types to include in the lesson is part of Step 3: Specifying Lesson Structure.

Select Learning Object Type

Under this step, you can modify the lesson structure you want for the course. This lesson structure is built out of "learning object types," which correlate to activities or tasks to include in the lesson.

The course builder will display a list of learning object types. Those that are already selected will have a check mark and be highlighted in purple.

Click the checkbox to the left of any learning object type you want add or remove from your lessons. If it's checked and you click it, it will be removed. If it's unchecked and you click it, it will be added to the course structure.

For example, in the image below we have selected a warm-up, guided practice, and printable practice problems to include in each lesson.

**NOTE** Learning object types can include a variety of tasks depending on what was selected previously in the course setup.

Reorder Lesson

You can also reorder the learning object types in the lesson by dragging and dropping. There are two methods of moving an item:

  1. Hover over the equal sign (=) to the left of the item until your cursor changes to a four-way arrow. Then click to grab that item, drag it to whatever spot in you would like to move it, and release it.
  2. Click on the learning object type name, and the checkbox will then have a light purple circle around it. Drag it to where you want to place it in the lesson and release.

Estimated Lesson Duration

As you add learning object types to your lesson, the “estimated lesson duration” will increase based on the expected duration of each learning object type that you add to your lesson. The estimated lesson duration will be calculated based on the expected duration of the learning object types selected, plus a 3-minute buffer between each learning object.

See Course Editor | Step 3: Update the duration of a lesson for a course for additional information on setting lesson duration.

Next Steps

Once you have the learning objects selected that you want to include in the lessons, click the Next button at the bottom of the screen to move on to Course Editor | Step 4: How to expand your course view.

When editing a course, you do not need to follow the steps sequentially and you can also jump to editing another area by clicking on the pencil icon next to that step in the menu bar at the top.

**NOTE** The pencil icon for the step currently selected will turn blue and change to the step number. The other steps will show the pencil icon in purple.
