This help document shows you how you to narrow down the results of available items when selecting questions for your online assessment/practiice.

When creating a new assessment or interactive practice problem learning object, there are three steps. Selecting questions for your assessment/practice is part of Step 3: Upload/Link LO. This step is also where you would filter the results.

Once you select Add Item from the Add button, the Curriculum Engine will bring up all available items that match the criteria you have specified in the previous steps of building your assessment or interactive practice problem learning object.

The initial item library display may include hundreds of potential items making it difficult to find the specific questions you want to include.

Filtering Item Results

To simplify the results, you can drill into the data to narrow down your search. Below are some of the key ways you can search and filter the data.

1. Find by Reference

Click the drop-down option to see reference options. You can enter a reference term, search by content, question or feature type and tags.

Reference: unique code or title given to the question; some questions contain the math program name like M1 for Math 1

Content: will search question text and description

Tags: useful search terms are Standard, Assessment, Worksheet, DOK, or Rigor

In the example below, we are searching for multiple choice questions:

2. Find by Tags

This is a Find by tags text field where you can enter keywords/tags to search. To search by tags, select the drop-down menu to bring up tag options:

**NOTE** You can search for items that match all the tags specified, or for those that match at least one of the tags entered.

We recommend using standards as tags to help narrow down the search results.  For assessment questions, use tag Item Type Assessment.  For interactive practice problem questions, use tag Item Type Worksheet.  When you enter a tag keyword in the field, give the interface a few seconds to return matching tag names and values.

**Note** Search results currently return questions that are used by assessments and interactive practices that are in the course.

Item tags are shown to the right of the items in the listing. For example:

3. Sort Items

Select the sort button to view the item results by one of the pre-set sort options. For example, "newest first":

Total Items

You can also see the total available items at any time, by clicking the Display total link next to the Sort button:

When you click Display total, it will list the total count of items available based on your current search criteria.

4. Scroll through Pages

  • Click the Next button, located at the top right of the item listing, to move forward through the pages, or
  • Click the Previous button, located at the top left of the item listing, to move backward.

Reset Search Options

To clear your current search options and begin your search from the beginning, click the Clear button. **NOTE** This button is only visible if there are existing search criteria specified.
